The sales tax return deadline for March, April and Q1 2020 is fast approaching in Colorado. Here is the information from the Taxation Division of the Colorado Department of Revenue.
This is a reminder for sales tax filers who delayed filing and payment of sales taxes originally due on or before April 20, 2020. All returns must be filed and taxes must be paid in full on or before May 20, 2020.
Monthly Filers: sales tax returns for March and April 2020 are due May 20, 2020
Quarterly Filers: sales tax returns for Q1 2020 (January through March 2020) are due May 20, 2020.
Service Fee
Taxpayers who did not file by the original April 20th due date are not eligible to retain state or local service fees. Taxpayers should enter zero for each column on line 11 of form DR 0100. No penalty (line 15) or interest (line 16) will be due if the return is filed and the full amount of the tax due is paid on or before May 20th.
Monthly returns for April sales must be filed on or before May 20th to retain the service fee and avoid penalty and interest.
Sales Tax Executive Order Extension
On May 4, 2020, Governor Jared Polis signed executive order D 2020 057 extending executive order D 2020 023. Order 023 would have expired May 5 unless extended, and the extension allowed order 023 to remain in effect through the May 20 due date. Order 057 did not amend order 023 or grant any further extensions of sales tax deadlines. Refer to Colorado’s return due date schedule for a comprehensive list of due dates that have been extended.
